- Soup from Owls

Okay. I’ve done it. I wrote something that wasn’t uplifting on someone else’s blog.  It wasn’t some mean spiteful comment laced with obscenity. It wasn’t mean… really.  It wasn’t even mean spirited. It was just a comment….. an observation, really.

I have been enjoying reading Mary’s blog over at Owlhaven. She has  a passel of kids, she has a garden (I didn’t know you could do both at the same time), she home schools (now I thought the three of those together were definitely impossible). Man! She’s like…. my hero and I don’t even know her.

She’s the one who challenged the 30 Days of Nothing. She’s trying to do her best to spend “nothing” extra during the month of September. Great goal. I’m trying to – though I’m failing in comparison to her.

So, lunch sneaks up on her and she throws some things into a pot and calls it soup. She named it “Confetti Pepperoni Soup.” Fitting name. It resembles confetti (looks fun) and has pepperoni in it and it’s a soup. But, look at it:

Keep in mind, in my defense, that I’ve written her several times. This is not her first contact with me. I’ve even sent her one of our favorite recipes, Apple Pie in a Jar, as seen here. Scroll down just a bit and you’ll see the apple pie jars lined up on her counter.

Everybody was so nice that left comments about her soup. I just couldn’t say “yum” …. and I needed to share my thoughts. Self-control is not one of my strongest character traits.

So, here’s the comment link.

I mentioned to her that you can’t say something is “yukky” at our house. If you do say something like that, then you have to eat it.

So, I’m going to buy the ingredients and prepare this beautiful, hearty, colorful soup for my own family. That way, I can try it! It is SO pretty….. it just looks like an odd mix of vegetables. Watch! I bet I’ll love it! And so will my family. Shoot! Soup with spinach has to be good, right? Oh my – those are beet tops not spinach leaves. anyway……………

I’ll let you know how things turn out!
