- One Thousand Gifts – Introduction
I am creative.
I am an overachiever.
It isn’t enough to give a gift, I always want mine to be “more” …
I want it to be personal, special, meaningful, specific to the receiver.
In all I do, I want it to be just a bit more than “just.”
I’ve thought often about Ann’s Challenge at A Holy Experience:
to list those things for which I am grateful.
It doesn’t seem enough.
I turn the idea in my mind.
Everyone does it differently.
Some list in a journal, private from the world.
Some create a blog just for the journal, to share with the world …. as a focal point.
Others include it in an existing blog, a continuing thankful heart of words
woven in and out of the daily.
How will I share?
My mind races. I want to challenge myself to write one a day …. or should it be three that I can reach 1,000 more quickly? I’d love to take a photo and post it with each jot and tittle. Should I create a separate blog just for this?
“simple.” God gently whispers … don’t create more work … don’t make a big ta-da …. don’t stew and fret over presentation … don’t make this difficult, Karen. It’s not about reaching a goal, it’s about living in a state of gratitude. This should be, for me, a written remembrance of the things that I am already softly sharing as things I mentally embrace as special. This should flow. It should come naturally. It should be easy, like breathing and sleeping and worshiping.
And so, I add a page here to share that I am joining Ann in counting my blessings. I am sure that I will add fifteen some days, and one the next week. I may not reach one thousand for years, or it may be months. Only time will tell.
While this page is listed with my declaration to be thankful,
I will include my list in the body of my posts along the way.
My first entry is here.
I challenge you, as well, to count your blessings … list them … document them, lest you not remember … write them in a journal or share them with a world. But, look for the beauty, the blessing, the bounty around you.
